Climate & Weather
Indonesia is a tropical country with lots of different islands, experiencing warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year. While much of Indonesia has distinct wet and dry seasons, islands like Sumatra are known for their lush nature all year round. Rain showers in Indonesia tend to be short and intense spells.
Average annual temperatures are consistent, sitting between 23℃ to 33℃, although this can vary slightly between islands. Indonesia’s highlands and mountain regions are generally cooler.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit on one of our Indonesia tours comes down to preference. Indonesia’s dry season lasts from April to September, with June to August being especially popular due to the sunny weather. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s lush rainy season falls from November to March, which can be a fantastic option for travellers on a budget.
If you are looking to experience the best of Indonesia’s wildlife, May and September can be incredible times of year to visit, as this is during Indonesia’s shoulder season.
Customs & Culture
Because there are so many different islands in Indonesia, the country is very culturally diverse and offers a whole variety of experiences to travellers. While Indonesia is more traditional compared to Bali and is predominantly Muslim, similar cultural customs such as dressing modestly, avoiding public displays of affection and respecting personal space are valued here.
Indonesia is a warm and welcoming country with a relaxed attitude to punctuality. It is important to show respect to the local communities and the environment by leaving each place as you found it on our Indonesia trips.
Passports & Visas
Entry requirements and visa regulations are different for every destination and your purpose of travel. We recommend staying updated on the latest official information before you go travelling. Your passport should be undamaged and have enough blank pages for stamps and visas. Many countries require your passport to have at least 6 months of validity beyond the date of entry.
